This is a Schlage L9010B mortise lock body, also known as the chassis.
It's the main internal mechanism for a mortise lockset (the kind that fits into a pocket cut into the door edge).
This is a 'Passage' function, meaning it doesn't lock – the lever or knob always turns freely to open the door from either side.
It's built heavy-duty for commercial or high-traffic residential use.
VERY IMPORTANT: This listing is for the lock case (chassis) ONLY.
You will need to purchase the trim (levers or knobs, called 'armor'), the strike plate, mounting screws, and a cylinder (the part that holds the key) separately to have a complete, working lockset.
Make sure this model (L283-131) is compatible with your existing Schlage mortise trim or the new trim you plan to buy.
